Princess Kaylee has never had to fight for anything. Her entire life has been arranged, even her marriage. But when Prince Devlin falls under an enchantment, she finds she is willing to do anything to save him, even if it means fighting a dragon.
Devlin's own sister, Princess Arabella, is behind the deadly plot. She wants the throne and will use any means necessary to gain it. Her perfect plan unravels, leaving Devlin caught in a magical sleep that is slowly spreading through the kingdom of Breniera. All Arabella needs to finish her spell and claim the crown is a drop of Kaylee's blood, but obtaining the single drop is proving more difficult than expected.
To save her betrothed, Kaylee embarks on a quest to find an ancient sword and gather a drop of dragon's blood, while trying to stay out of Arabella's traps. But Arabella's traps aren't the only danger. Time is everything. For once the last inhabitant of the kingdom falls asleep, the spell will be sealed, and not even true love's kiss will break it
Quest of the Hart A Princess of Valendria Novel eBook Mary Waibel
This was a fun read, not overly complicated, but not boring either. It was between 3 and 4 stars for me.There is some character growth from the heroine throughout the story. She wasn't terribly interesting, but she was likeable. Some of the secondary characters seemed to have some depth, which was good.
Arabella was an interesting character. Based only on this story, I was left wondering whether her claim had any merit (there's a lot of difference between first born child and first born male child). At times she seemed to become more than just evil, but those moments were short-lived and she never really became a whole person for me. Her animal gift didn't seem very impressive. I didn't notice it giving her any help at all. The attraction between Arabella and her love interest seemed almost more believable than the one between the main romantic couple, at least for most of the story. I would be interested to see her story come to a more satisfying conclusion. Maybe someday there could be a book 1.5 that gives Arabella her own happy ending??
The book is clean. The violence is limited. There are elements of magic, but nothing too dark. If the film Enchanted wouldn't bother you, there shouldn't be any problems here.

Quest of the Hart A Princess of Valendria Novel eBook Mary Waibel Reviews
I loved the reverse telling of this fairy tale. The good princess vs. evil princess was well played. It was so nice to see a strong female struggle against obstacles and triumph in the end. This is definitely a reccommended read.
So I absolutely ADORE this book. I can't stress that enough. I love the characters and the writing is beautiful and smooth. No spoilers. You'll have to read it for yourself. But if you're looking for a fairytale where the girl saves the day, this is it. And once my little girl gets out of pictures books, I plan to read it to her too, because I know she'll love it.
KST
I adore a cute fairy tale and love fantasy, so to have them both mashed together into a story certainly suited me.
Mary does a wonderful job weaving the threads of the familiar Sleeping Beauty theme into a fantastical world with a brilliant twist it is the PRINCESS who must save the day...and the kingdom.
Throughout the story, clear imagery is on display, the adventure non stop and the danger ever present. I would definitely recommend this to others -)
Loved the story and the strong female characters. In this updated fantasy/fairy tale, it is the princess who must save the prince! The pace of the story was good. A!though I found myself wanting to know more about some of the other characters, it did not detract from my enjoyment of the story. A perfect summer read. Looking forward to more from this author.
I love a good, strong female character and have always kind of hated the whole princess-who-needs-saving stories, so picking up Quest I was really curious to see how Waibel was going to portray this reverse fairy-tale I loved how Kaylee grows throughout the story and was able to save her prince, and the kingdom. This is a great example of a very strong character arc, and I totally loved Kaylee for that.
One thing I wasn't expecting was how much I actually really liked the antagonist. Arabella was completely fascinating to me. I could understand her motivation, and while I didn't agree with her methods, I loved getting into her head and seeing what she was thinking and why. I'll admit, if my parents showered a lot of attention on my sibling over me, that would probably tick me off too ) Arabella oddly enough stole the show for me, and added a perfect layer of complexity to the story.
Mary Waibel has made an incredible new fairy tale spin with Quest of the Hart. What I enjoyed most about this story is the character development of the main character, Princess Kaylee. At first, she is more of the typical fairy tale princess safe, guarded, and seemingly destined for a happily ever after without much effort. But once an evil plot is discovered (by her prince's sister no less), Kaylee really has to really take a big turn. She has to go from a very sheltered life to a life where she has to fight with everything she has if she even wants to live. Waibel does a remarkable job of showing her progression and developing depth. Sometimes in the story, you get a look at what is going through Princess Arabella's head (the antagonist), and I love seeing her side of things. The hint of romance in her own life was extremely swoon worthy.
The narration of this story wraps you up and puts you right in the middle of a world full of magic, love, and possibility. I didn't have a choice but to be enchanted with it from the first chapter and to fall in love with the world more and more as the world exposed itself more. The characters fit perfectly into it, and it makes it a wonderful pick for any lover of fairy tales, old or new.
Another favorite part of this story for me was the ending. I won't give spoilers, but it wrapped up very well, and I'm very happy with how things turned out. I will be extremely excited to start Charmed Memories, a companion to this one!
